Moruya is a bustling rural town located on the picturesque Moruya River. It is a great base for
your exploration of the Nature Coast and the gateway to the scenic wonders of the Deua National Park and the
Araluen Valley. Close to many beautiful beaches around South and North Head, as well as all the fun of the river,
Moruya is a lovely place for a holiday, with a wide range of accommodation in Moruya, Broulee, and the surrounding
district.
Wander the country markets on a Saturday morning and don’t miss the antique shop and second hand stores.
Moruya has a museum run by the local historical society which has wonderful exhibits and information about Moruya’s
rich shipping, dairying and gold mining history.
The granite used in the pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge was quarried in Moruya – a fascinating story in itself
- and many of the town's beautiful old buildings are made from the local stone.
The stretch of coast just south of Moruya from the small village of Congo to Bingi Bingi Point has its own special
allure. With spectacular headlands and rock formations and beautiful secluded beaches, its perfect for bushwalking,
swimming, fishing, or just relaxing in the magnificent surroundings.
South Head, Moruya has spectacular view across the river mouth. The Moruya River itself is popular with fishers and
has many grassy picnic areas to relax and wet a line. Upstream reports of the wily bass are still common.
The Moruya Jazz Festival held annually in October and the Deua River Bush Races each June are two special events
which bring visitors flocking to this picturesque town.
