Art And Culture
The richness and moods of the Nature Coast are complemented by the creativity of its
vital and talented artistic community.
In partnership with the breathtaking landscape of beaches, lakes and rivers to mountains and awesome native
forests, a wealth of galleries and studios feature painting, calligraphy, sculpture, ceramics, pottery,
textiles, indigenous art and crafts.
The studio artists tucked away in every corner of the Nature Coast are worth seeking out for their fine
creations.
Just north of Batemans Bay on South Durras Drive, Benandarah, is the Forest Gallery which has made its presence
felt in the cultural life of the coast.
The gallery represents many of the region’s professional artists, featuring painting, sculpture, studio
glass, wood and ceramics and presents group and solo exhibitions throughout the year.
Enhancing the rich and complex character of the Eurobodalla Coast are the villages of Mogo and Tomakin where
galleries and studios offer a beautiful range of arts and crafts including ceramics and painting.
There are two potteries located in Barlings Drive, Tomakin (look out for the sign on George Bass Drive
at Tomakin), where talented and creative potters produce beautiful and functional pieces that will re-create
those holiday memories for years.
Further down the coast at Bodalla is The Postmaster’s Gallery for lovers of genuine heritage. This National
Trust building houses original paintings, rugs and hangings.
To enter the National Trust village of Central Tilba is to take a step back in time to a working village where
local artists, leather workers and woodturners practise their crafts.
Call into the Batemans Bay Visitor Centre and view the wide range of work by local artists and
craftspeople from paintings to sculpture and pottery with displays changing throughout the year. Works are
available to purchase. The Centre is open 9am to 5pm, 7 days (closed Christmas Day).
Beaches
There are more than sixty named beaches lining the Eurobodalla
Coast - from pounding surf to tranquil bays.
Visitors rate Eurobodalla's sparkling clean beaches among the best
in the world.
Surf with a dolphin or explore the rock pools - the Eurobodalla
Coast has something for everyone.
Eurobodalla Dunecare volunteers help maintain our beautiful beaches
by carrying out dune rehabilitation and maintenance work and prevent damage by making walkways and
fences.
In this way, if everybody helps to look after it, Eurobodalla's
coastline will remain unspoilt.
During the holiday season, the main beaches are patrolled at
Batemans Bay, Malua Bay, Broulee, South Head Moruya, Tuross, Dalmeny and Narooma.
But like the open ocean anywhere, conditions can vary so take
care.
